The Extinction of the Male! Really?

In a recent conversation a scientist friend of ours mentioned that researchers have indicated the extinction of the male within a thousand years or so. This had our heads churning. What would need to change in order to divert the reality of such a prognosis? Here is what we came up with:

For centuries masculine energy has been dominating the planet as feminine energy has been suppressed.  Modern men are heralded for their sexual prowess and conquests from an early age; when a teenage boy experiences sex for the first time, he may tell his father, who will reaffirm the boy’s virility by congratulating him and giving him condoms—a tacit approval of what he’s done and an implication that the boy is on his path to manhood.

On the other hand, when a teenage girl has sex for the first time, often she will keep it secret out of shame or embarrassment. She most likely will not go to her mother for fear of disapproval and being considered impure or no longer marriage material. In some parts of the world, she may be called a whore, outcast from her family or community, or even stoned to death.
Masculine and feminine energy—like testosterone and estrogen—exists in all people, regardless of gender, and the balance between the two is what leads to harmony amongst each other and throughout the world.

A shift of consciousness is happening now as the feminine is rising.  Women are re-connecting with their feminine essence while having developed their masculine capacities over the past 50 years since the onset of the women’s movement.

The call for the 21st century male is to come into balance of his masculine or yang side with his feminine or yin side. Masculine essence has many gifts to offer, such as clarity and decisiveness, as pointed out in The Way of the Superior Man by David Deida.  However, when it is not balanced by the feminine, it can lead to violence and war, greed, and extreme individualism and competition.

How is the male to achieve this feminine-masculine balance?

  1. To start, learn to cultivate the “observer mind.”  Most of us spend our life consumed by the constant chatter in our mind.  However, as human beings, we have the ability to be self-reflective or aware of our own existence, which allows us to rise above the biological miracle of ourselves and recognize that we are at choice in how we live, feel, think and act.
  2. Then begin to practice the conscious use of sexual life force energy. Charles and Caroline Muir point out in Tantra: The Art of Conscious Loving, “From the time a boy enters puberty… he’s pretty much controlled by sex.”   When a man can learn to observe and channel his sexual life force energy into his heart, a transformation takes place. The Muir’s continue, “One of the greatest areas of misinformation concerns the purpose of sex, its goal.  Most westerners, especially men, believe that the whole point of sex is ejaculation… For Tantricas, on the other hand, the purpose of sex is the conscious creation of harmony and physical well–being, the buildup of sexual energy, and the transcendence to spiritual levels of consciousness.”
  3. Open the heart. In Tantric Secrets for Men, Kerry and Diane Riley write, “One of the most powerful ways you can [awaken your beloved’s sexual energy] is through the heart, by opening more to intimacy.  However, to be a real man you are not supposed to show too much intimacy.”  Men have generally been socialized to suppress their feelings and not talk about them.  The challenge for the 21st century male is to move beyond these societal beliefs and learn to connect emotionally with himself and others. True intimacy develops when sex no longer becomes about the end goal, but rather about the energy and connection shared during the act.  Women especially need to feel a heart connection so that they can open up more fully sexually.
  4. Train your pelvic floor muscles. In Sacred Sexuality, Michael Mirdad refers to the term in-jaculation involving a “two-step process of separating the orgasm from the ejaculation and drawing the energy from this orgasm inwards and upwards along the spine.” This process begins by training the pelvic floor muscle regularly through squeezing and releasing coordinated the breath.  Over time, a man can use his trained pelvic floor muscles during solo or partner love making to draw the aroused energy up into his heart center and beyond.  This, of course, requires much practice and discipline and does not happen overnight.  However, with proper training and guidance, a man can learn to master his ejaculatory impulse and enjoy extended pleasure and intimacy.
  5. Improve your health. In addition to experiencing greater bliss and prolonged pleasure the channeling of non-aroused and aroused energy for the male is highly beneficial for a man’s health.  When a man ejaculates, he loses precious life force energy and feels depleted, perhaps falling asleep immediately afterwards.  If he can learn to direct and circulate his sexual life force energy upwards into his heart and Third Eye, he can then re-direct this energy in all parts of his life, leading to more vitality, creativity, and aliveness in whatever he does. Physically, men who have made this practice part of their life report greater aliveness, increased energy at work, more focused workouts, and are able to maintain their sex drive later in life.  Furthermore, this practice helps keep reproductive organs healthy and supports healing of conditions of ED including post-prostate surgery recovery.

If you are a man and reading this article consider avoiding the path towards the extinction of the male by 3014 by applying the above mindset and practices. If you are a woman, consider supporting the man in your life or your male friends and associates in learning the above practices. The benefits will be vast in all of our personal lives and for humanity at large!

The Tiger Phenomenon – Chasing the Illusion

Much has been written about Tiger Woods - ranging from psychological analysis to speculation to moralistic assessment. Blame has been placed: It was Tiger's fault; the mistresses were seductresses or his wife was the victim. Who was the predator or the prey? Tiger is from Mars, Elin is from Venus.
The question I'd like to pose is: What can we learn about our cultural conditioning regarding marriage, love, intimacy, fulfillment, happiness ....that is not unique to Tiger and his relationships but rather plays out as an archetypal structure of the human evolution.
Looking from the view of Quantum physics, where particles (or people) are electromagnetically interconnected, we could say that participants within a certain system like relationships, families, communities, organizations, etc., are interconnected. Nothing happens in isolation.
Translating this into Tiger's situation - the interconnectedness between all players becomes apparent: Each of them played their role according to their consciousness. The level of consciousness has to do with what we see or don't see about ourselves. The less I see about myself the more unconscious I am.
The most immediate test for identifying the level of one's consciousness lies in the observation of the results one's actions and behaviors produce. When breakdowns and suffering show up in our relationship(s) we know that those are indicators of unconsciousness. So, how can we shift from unconsciousness (blindness about oneself) to consciousness?
I call this form of blindness in relationship living in an illusion. One core illusion in the relational context is driven by a desire for being loved, approved of, or feeling satisfied. There is a sense of need or a needy feeling. The expectation is that the fulfillment of the desires is attained through someone, something or some circumstance. As long as the illusion remains obscured and unexamined the chase for fulfilling the desire sustains. Moments of excitement and high might be experienced in a fleeting way yet lasting happiness, joy and intimacy are unattainable.
However, there is no cheese down that tunnel. Fulfillment in sex, intimacy, love, relationship or marriage is not available through another or a circumstance. Fulfillment resides within - and that's the re-discovery for us as human beings. This re-discovery of an original state of being will open the possibility for bliss. And this bliss can then be shared with another versus longed for to be sourced by another.
The Tiger phenomenon is a reminder for where we are in our human evolution and a call to examine the illusions each of us might live in. We choose to what extent we are ready and willing to evolve. Frequently the reaching of a critical point of pain is the wake-up call overriding the long held need for secrecy or pretense. The signal could be the SUV hitting the fire hydrant in the early morning hours, the discovery of voice messages or finding out not to not be the only mistress.
Upon the wake-up call, all players - husband, wife and mistresses - have now a tremendous opportunity to evolve themselves according to their wish for consciousness and level of self-generated fulfillment they aspire towards. As a consequence of stepping out of illusion into consciousness, suffering within oneself and in relationship diminishes and ultimately disappears.

TantraNova Man Show

Aloha this is Zental!

Over this last year I've had the opportunity to travel around the country performing my one-man show "TantrNova Man"! One of the things I see is the relevance of this story to many of the people in the audiences. It has reassured me that there is something in the show that resonates in all of us....life force energy!

I named myself Zental about four years ago, it came out of the moments that I embody the highest ideals of our TantraNova practices and teachings, conscious and a full belly breath, present to this very moment of now not in my mind's illusion of a memory, a future plan, or an opinion about what's happening ... mindless consciousness creativity and joy as a way of being.

Zental is a character in my TantraNova Man show who is a Tantra teacher in Africa who in the storyline gives me my first exposure to learning how to draw on sexual energy as a pathway to creativity and joy as a fundamental way of living and being in all areas of life. The show starts with my life at the age of five through the current, good times and bad, it is a hero's journey searching for the secrets to sexual intelligence.

The show is entertaining, humorous, and full of songs and drumming at the same time educating...I like to call it edutainment ideally opening up a new possibility for the uninitiated and inspiring those who are more familiar with the path of consciousness through sexual awareness. What is new about sexual intelligence as I share it in the show is the systemic relationship of creativity and joy that is a primordial fundamental piece to sexual energy. And that one can learn practices of consciousness, focus and intention that will manifest more creativity and joy in areas of life that seemed completely unrelated to sex. One can become more intimately familiar with intimacy ... trusting what feels good and right emotionally, mentally, energetically and physically in work, life and love... allowing a fuller unique expression and contribution in the world not totally buying into the left brain rationalize suffering mind, like "well that's the way it is and there's nothing I can do".

We all have the potential to make a difference in this evolving humanity that we are ... begin and continue to make yours.
With an Open Heart, Zental

Much to do About TantraNova Man

Last night was Theater Night at TantraNova. My one-man show starts out with: …… “I am TantraNova Man!!! Just kidding! I am Freddy and really a tall black guy.”

So today I’d like to give you a taste of what the show is all about. Even if you can’t attend since you live in L.A., Memphis, Rome, or Santiago you can get a glimpse of it here by reading the interview Elsbeth did with me:

Elsbeth: How did you come to create your “TantraNova Man” show?

Freddy Z: I wanted to share with people in an entertaining and inspiring way how TantraNova lives and works for me in my life. I am weaving storytelling with singing, dancing, telling jokes and playing my drums – all to express how the impacting moments in my life starting at the age of five through adulthood have shaped who I am today.

Elsbeth: Any breakthrough that you experienced since starting the play?

Freddy Z: Yes, I always wished I could sing. Until I started the play I firmly believed that I couldn’t sing. I remember as a kid that I was told I’d better keep my mouth shut when it came to singing. As a grownup every time I would listen to Kurt Elling or Carol King or Satchmo I wished I could sing. Three years ago when deciding to do my play I made a pact with myself to learn how to sing. So I took lessons and started to practice and developed my voice. And now I am having a lot of fun performing songs by the great masters while accompanying myself on my jimbai drum, congas or handsonic (my electronic instrument).

Elsbeth: What’s your favorite part in your play?

Freddy Z: The story about the time when I was 13 years old discovering my first orgasm. This was a most exhilarating moment. I thought ‘it doesn’t get any better than this! I never have to leave my room again! I don’t have to take out the garbage anymore! And I was wondering why the teachers in school never had taught us about this?’

What I see now is how much that sexual lusting energy ran me for a long time - falling in and out of love experiencing lots of drama. Looking at it from my present day perspective I find it rather comical – however in my youth and young adulthood it was exhilarating, serious, heart wrenching ……!

Elsbeth: What else do you like about the play?

Freddy Z: I get to do all the things that I love to do: I get to sing, get to play my drums, get to touch people’s hearts with my stories, get to laugh in a group and I’m having fun.

To find out about future show dates please go to TantraNova Man: An Experiential Show
or the Special Events section on www.tantranova.com. I also invite you to write me at freddy@tantranova.com.

What’s a TantraNova Practitioner?

Here is Dr E from TantraNova central. This morning I was sitting at my computer working on putting down on paper particular practices that we teach in our seminars and private session program. Over the past year I have been committed to replicating my coaching skills and the results I produce when coaching students. What I mean by that is that any student who gets trained in our practitioner program can – if they apply themselves – produce the same coaching results as I do with their clients, beloveds or friends.

The purpose of my intention is for TantraNova as an approach to become accessible and teachable independently from me. I am of the conviction that this would be a powerful way of making a difference in the world to create conscious relationship, sexuality and intimacy!

The coaching practices I am talking about are of different nature and one set of them we named “Recall Practice”. A “Recall Practice” allows a student or client to explore what drives their present day behavior, emotions, constraints or struggles as they relate to intimacy, relationship, love, sexuality, womanhood, manhood, the feminine or the masculine, and so forth. Most of what we think about, do or act upon in our present life was learned and appropriated at an early time originating from infancy, childhood or adolescence.

It looks like that: If I find myself over and over again in the same pattern of relational, sexual, intimate or love struggles it’s an indication that “my radio dial” is set at a certain frequency. If I want to change something in my life I need to change the dial setting. First I need to get what my dial is set for – and the “Recall Practice” is a great way to learn about that.

The past generations of our certification graduates have helped and supported me in my own development as an intimacy and relationship coach. Within the next week we’ll have a dedicated page up on www.tantranova.com representing a number of TantraNova practitioners. Please take a look at who they are!

By the way if you’d like to learn more about how to apply and share the “Recall Practice” you may want to look into our Certification Level I & Certification Level II certification programs. The next round starts March 9, 2008.

Write us at tantranova@tantranova.com with further questions or thoughts on your “dial setting” and what you’d like to change in your setting so you can get what you want in your life. http://www.tantranova.com
